    Is Kobe a dirty player?

First off I hope this becomes a civil thread with a group of adults expressing their opinions.

Now I haven't watched much NBA, but I see the typical highlights and hear and read the stories. This now makes, what, the second time Kobe has down this. From what I could see from both clips of when this has happened is that he delibertly swing his arm towards an opposing player. Now this last incident wasnt as bad as the first IMO. I dont know if it was so bad it warranted a suspension but he should of been fined.

Also where are the people that was critizing and calling the Vicks thugs? This is Kobe's second incident plus he was accussed of rape, I believe, and no one is calling him a thug. Why? He is a highprofile, black athlete just like the Vicks.

By no means am I standing up for any of them. Im just wanting a good thread for a change with some good convo.

    Any thoughts?

Re: Is Kobe a dirty player?

I think the reason no one says anything about Kobe is because he plays in the NBA, the NFL is a lot more popular than the NBA and no matter who you are in the NFL if you have done something your name will get drug through the mud. Nobody really says anything about Kobe because not as many people care, therefore, there will be less talk about it. I haven't even seen the highlight of what happened yet and I have watched ESPN on and off since I got home around 5:00, had that been Vick, Thomas Jones, Drew Brees, Rex Grossman, or any other high profile NFL player I would have probably seen it 10 times.

Re: Is Kobe a dirty player?

I don't know if he is a dirty player, because I can't stand to watch NBA games. The rules seem to be way different than what I'm willing to stomach. I think both plays were dirty.

As far as the public perception of Kobe vs. The Vicks, that's easy. Kobe doesn't seem to have that hip-hop, gangsta image. He may very well, in my opinion, be a lowlife, but he has polish. I guess it goes back to that saying, "You can't judge a book by its cover." I think most of us do...me included.

I thought it was deliberate. I also think that the NBA (which I haven't watched in years) has a much higher ratio of thugs than other pro sports. Personally, I feel he should be suspended and fined heftily.

I'm waiting to see if this happens a little later down the road, and then what would all the media say about it. It also helps him that he is pretty much the premiere player and the face of the league.

Re: Is Kobe a dirty player?

I did not see what happened this time, but I thought a suspension was a little overboard last time, so you if thought this time wasn't as bad, I don't see what the deal is. The last time his shot was blocked, and he threw his arm back like he was going to try and keep Manu from getting the deflection. Unfortunately, it caught Manu in the face, but there wasn't even a foul called on the play. Who knows, but its the NBA and most nobody really cares.

Re: Is Kobe a dirty player?

Kobe isnt perceived that way because hes more "uncle tomish". Had it been Iverson or Artest, they'd be tossin the "thug" personna around the way the racists throw around the word "propoganda" on the nonsports forum. Kobe is the golden boy who grew up in Italy speaking several different languages.

I know everyone says they dont like watching the nba but the game is played the way it is because thats the most effective way to win. If my team is Duke and I have the Miami Heat players in college basketball, Im not going to run some retarded motion offense and a 2-3 zone, Im throwing it into superman until he either dunks on someone or gets double teamed and then flash or eddie jones is going to kill you 3 points at a time every trip down the court.

Pro players are too good for the type of crap that colleges use. Man defenses and isolation to find mismatches are pretty much the norm. Same with football, youre not going to see the spread offense in the nfl anytime soon on a consistent basis.

Re: Is Kobe a dirty player?

IMO Kobe has a bad temper and when things aren't going his way he can become a "dirty" player. As for what you said about it being a dig deal had it been AI or Artest, ya think?? Kobe was ACCUSED of rape, AI and Artest ARE thugs. At least Kobe can present himself in a professional manner and is well spoken, with all due respect I think Artest is borderline retarded.
